Nasa consegue detalhar como um buraco negro distante devora uma estrela. Em 28 de março de 2011, o satélite Swift da Nasa detectou intensa emissão de raios-X causado por um buraco negro que devorou uma estrela. Em um modelo, ilustrado aqui, uma estrela do tipo do Sol está em órbita excêntrica e passa muito perto do buraco negro no centro da galáxia. Cerca de metade da massa da estrela alimenta o disco ao redor do buraco, o resto é lançado em feixes de radiação para a Terra
